Dan Bardell doesn’t think Seamus Coleman will retire at the end of the season despite missing large spells through injury.

The 36-year-old has made just one Premier League appearance this season after making just 12 across the entirety of last campaign.

This has seen the right back forced to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland national side despite hopes of being able to make a long-awaited return.

Despite this, Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell can see the captain playing another season on Merseyside.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “Right-back has been a problem position for Everton in terms of injuries.

“Coleman is such a stalwart and a club icon that I wouldn’t write him off, he’ll be looking to battle back and feature under the new owners and in the new stadium next season.

“*He is picking up more injuries and missing more games but regardless, he’s such a useful player around the place for Everton.*“

With Sean Dyche in charge, there is an experienced head at the helm at Goodison which goes hand in hand with the addition of Coleman and Ashley Young on the pitch.

Although this trio may not necessarily delight Toffees fans, there is no doubt that they provide stability to a side which is anything but stable off the pitch.

It would certainly be a blow to lose the Irishman in particular after featuring for the Toffees for over 15 years, his influence on the club and squad would be sorely missed.

If it is time for the 36-year-old to retire, as injuries continue to take their toll, a coaching role has to be offered regardless of who is owner or manager.
