'A sign of white smoke': Finance expert thinks Friedkin Group have dropped big Everton takeover …

Everton still find themselves in search of their new owners with Farhad Moshiri still holding the keys at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche’s side continue to grind out results which are proving enough – for now – to keep them above the bottom three.

However, there could be some big changes on Merseyside coming over the next few weeks with The Friedkin Group closing in on their Everton takeover.

But there has now been a few weeks since there has been any major development in the proposed takeover.

And with the January transfer window quickly approaching, The Friedkin Group may now find themselves in a real rush to get the keys to the club.

Stefan Borson questions The Friedkin Group’s Everton takeover

Everton are not the only Premier League side to be in this position this year with Sir Jim Ratcliffe securing his takeover at Manchester United.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Stefan Borson thinks the latest move by the Friedkin Group to appoint the Nolan Partners is a sign that the end is near.

“We understand the Friedkin’s have formally appointed Nolan Partners to look for a chief executive, which would say is a sign of white smoke in this situation, and they are probably approaching the point at which they will get the approval they need from the Premier League,” he said.

“So the only surprising thing is if you look at how quickly Sir Jim Ratcliffe got his approval from the Premier League under their owners and directors test, even though it was over Christmas and New Year, right? I think it took six weeks.

“And it’s already taken a bit longer than that for Friedkin, so you just wonder why they haven’t got the approval yet. Really it’s no issue but that should have come through by now.”

The Friekdin’s are already planning for the January window so any delays is potentially going to hinder their hopes of making an instant impact on Merseyside.

Everton could need big January improvements

Some of the biggest sides in the Premier League will be facing Everton over the next month which could see the Toffees in a worrying position come January.

After 12 games, the Blues are only sitting two points ahead of the bottom three, with the festive fixtures set to really test Everton.

Everton are receiving January interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin despite struggling in front of goal with the second-lowest number of goals scored in the league.

And The Friedkin Group’s failure to potentially get in the door by January could leave the Toffees with a huge challenge in the second half of the campaign to avoid relegation.
