After their defeat against Real Sociedad and a painful draw against Celta Vigo, FC Barcelona had another difficult match awaiting them in the UEFA Champions League last night as they faced the French side Brest, who had been performing quite well in the European competition.
However, the Blaugranes were able to get a win in that game, as Robert Lewandowski scored a brace and Dani Olmo scored another goal to give their side a 3-0 victory.
Hansi Flick was naturally quite happy after the game, but his counterpart, Eric Roy, also did not hesitate to admit how Barcelona were able to dominate the game.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Brest coach highlighted how the Blaugranes’ furious pressure kept his team from being able to get a hold of the game:
“When you don’t have the ball, when you’re five meters away from it, it’s difficult to show character. Every time we recovered the ball, we couldn’t complete passes because of their pressure. Just look at Raphinha’s pressing. Barcelona suffocated us.”
The French trainer clearly admitted that Barcelona were the better team on the night:
“When they lose the ball, they have the resources to close down spaces. They don’t let you organize, you don’t have the chance to fix the marks. They intercept the pass and close up with such an advanced defensive line. Today we were missing quite a few things to trouble Barcelona. If the opponent is superior, you have to recognize it.”
This game is a clear indication that Barcelona have once again started emphasizing the intense pressure that had allowed them to get such good results earlier in the season. Hopefully, the team will now be able to sustain this performance in the weeks to come, and keep on proving themselves to be one of the best teams in Europe.
