Julen Lopetegui decision ‘skyrockets’ chances of January exit – Player now closer to exit door

In the summer window, Guido Rodríguez joined West Ham United as a free agent, after spending four years at Real Betis.

Over the past few weeks, there’s been claims in UK and Spain about the possibility of the 30-year-old returning to the La Liga side in January.

Last week, AS reported the West Ham player is ‘very much in the running’ for Real Betis, while Estadio Deportivo stated the London club haven’t made a decision yet.

A fresh report from Estadio Deportivo says the Argentina international has now hit ‘rock bottom’ at West Ham and the possibility of him leaving in January ‘skyrockets’.

This is because of Julen Lopetegui’s decision to replace the midfielder after the first half against Nottingham Forest and leave him out of the starting lineup in the 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

West Ham impressed against Newcastle and are expected to do without Rodríguez in the upcoming fixtures, which will push him towards the exit door.

A senior West Ham official has told Estadio they aren’t opposed to his sale as long as they can recover the money invested [signing on bonus and agent fee].

Estadio explain it’s ‘complicated’ for Real Betis to bring Rodríguez back in January because of ‘relations damaged’ with his agent during failed negotiations for his renewal. In addition to this, Manuel Pellegrini’s side are prioritising signing a creative midfielder.

That relationship will need fixing ahead of any Betis return.
