Leicester face one major stumbling block in search for new manager

Leicester City are still yet to appoint a new manager after sacking Steve Cooper on Sunday.

The Foxes want to have a new manager in place by this weekend, but time is running out.

Graham Potter has already turned Leicester down whilst a number of other managers have been linked with the Foxes.

Carlos Corberan played down any talk linking him with Leicester whilst Lee Carsley and Ruud van Nistelrooy are also names being touted.

But nothing is ever simple with Leicester and it seems that they could face one major obstacle in their quest to appoint a new manager.

Financial restrictions will affect Leicester’s new manager search

Off the pitch concerns have concerned Leicester for some time now.

They came extremely close to being hit with a points deduction for breaching profit and sustainability rules – only for sports lawyer Nick De Marco to bail them out last minute and have the decision overturned.

The pennies are still being counted at the King Power Stadium however, and according to The Athletic, it will play a role in their search for a new manager.

Two relegations in three seasons would be severely consequential for the Foxes and would force them into an unwanted fire sale.

Sacking Brendan Rodgers two years ago cost the club almost £90m and whilst Cooper wasn’t as expensive, an unexpected expenditure to pay for his departure will still feel the purse strings tighten.

Managers such as Potter and Moyes won’t come cheap whereas the likes of Corberan and Michael Carrick would require the club to pay for compensation.

Van Nistelrooy is appealing as he won’t cost the Foxes much but the risk-to-reward ratio with a manager not used to managing in the Premier League is high.

Who will take charge of Leicester against Brentford?

It seems unlikely that a new manager will be in place before Saturday.

Reports have claimed that the Foxes had no new manager in the frame when they relieved Cooper of his duties.

Ben Dawson, Andrew Hughes, and Danny Alcock are the three Leicester coaches in charge for Brentford at present.

The squad returned from their Christmas party in Copenhagen on Tuesday and preparation is now underway for the trip to west London.
