Frank Lampard has agreed to become Coventry City's new manager.
The former Chelsea midfielder and manager left the Blues in 2023 after taking over on an interim basis following Graham Potter's sacking, and has been without a full-time role in management since.
However, after Mark Robbins was sacked by Coventry earlier this month, speculation was rife that Lampard was in the frame to take over. And now according to various reports, the Chelsea icon has agreed to become the club's new manager.
Coventry currently sit 17th in the Championship after just two wins in their last nine games. Given their run to the FA Cup semi-finals, and also a run to the 2022/23 Championship play-off final - both of which they lost on penalties - it was perhaps surprising that Robins was relieved of his duties so soon into the season.
The Sky Blues' owner Doug King recently conceded that sacking Robins may be a mistake, but that he could not afford for the club to risk relegation to League One.
"I cannot have the risk of us getting relegated," King said. "Nobody thought Birmingham would get relegated – and they did. The next appointment is very important.
"You can argue that this was a big mistake [to sack Robins]. But I had to do something. And everybody will make their judgment clear."
Lampard has recently been linked to other roles, including at Roma, where another former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri instead took the job following Ivan Juric's exit from the club. However, while nothing has yet been signed, a number of reports state that Lampard has agreed to join Coventry City.
An announcement to confirm the decision is expected within the next two days, and the 46-year-old is likely to be in place for the Championship clash against Cardiff City on Saturday.
