Ruben Amorim could be set to reunite with four of his former Sporting players, according to reports.
Amorim, 39, took charge of his first game as United head coach last Sunday as he saw his side play out a 1-1 draw at Portman Road against Ipswich.
Although he employed his usual 3-4-3 formation, it was clear that the Red Devils’ players had not been entirely well-drilled in his playing style as of yet.
But, as he said in his first interview when he arrived at Old Trafford, this may take “time” to work.
When speaking after Sunday’s match, Amorim even said that his team will need to “suffer”.
“They need time to have some fluidity,” he explained.
“I know it’s frustrating for the fans, but we are changing so much in this moment with a lot of games. We are going to suffer for a long period. This will take time.”
But this ‘suffering’ may well be eased in the January transfer window.
According to Mail, United had scouts at Sporting’s 5-1 defeat against Arsenal on Tuesday, with Manchester City among several Premier League clubs 'watching' at the Estadio Jose Alvalade stadium.
The report suggests that United have ‘made it their priority’ to sign in form Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swede has netted 67 times in 69 appearances for Sporting since signing from Coventry City in 2023, having scored 24 times in just 20 games so far this term.
Amorim has ‘promised’ not to take players from his old club in January, but this could depend on how United are performing come the transfer window.
PSG left-back Nuno Mendes may also be an option for United.
Mendes played under Amorim at Sporting between 2020 and 2022.
Geovany Quenda, 17, and Pedro Goncalves, 26, have also been linked with a potential move to United.
Amorim’s former club are ‘open to negotiating’ as the Red Devils are set to ‘offer’ around £50m to sign Quenda, according to A BOLA.
The youngster is under contract at Sporting until June 2027.
As for Goncalves, he mostly played on the left of a front-three under Amorim – the position Alejandro Garnacho was used in during the draw at Ipswich. The Portugal international’s Sporting contract is set to run until June 2027 with the player valued at around €32.00m (£26.7m) by Transfermarkt.
