Chelsea fans react after Deivid Washington’s latest performance for the Under-21s

Chelsea youngster Deivid Washington starred as the Under-21s side beat Real Sociedad on Tuesday night.

Chelsea’s U21s secured a 2-1 win over Spanish opposition Real Sociedad yesterday in a Premier League International Cup fixture at Kingsmeadow.

Deivid Washington, who’s just 19, was a key player in his side’s European win.

The teenage forward was instrumental in Harvey Vale’s opening goal, showing some great close control and dribbling past the Real Sociedad defence in the build-up. Afterwards, Washington got on the scoresheet himself with a low right-footed finish into the bottom corner inside the penalty box.

The Blues academy has produced so many future stars in recent decades. It’s brilliant news that Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is a big advocate of the club’s academy.

Chelsea fans react to Deivid Washington performance

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media reacted to Washington’s midweek performance for the U21s.

The Brazilian attacker has played three first-team games for the Blues since he joined in a £17m deal (BBC) in the summer of 2023, but he’s not made a senior appearance yet this season under Enzo Maresca.

Here are many Chelsea fans on X that were seriously impressed by Washington’s latest display for the development squad:

@EriCFC0 said: “I don’t know why this boy hasn’t been called up for senior game. If we can nurtured him well, we won’t be scouting for striker again.”

@CFCsayuti claimed: “He needs minutes in the senior team.”

@chhuanga_97 posted: “He is too good.”

What’s next for Deivid Washington?

Chelsea were linked with selling Washington in the summer, but he ended up staying put in west London.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to see a genuine route for him into the first-team picture this season. Therefore, it could make sense for the club to explore a loan move for the South American teenager in the New Year.

Nicolas Jackson is currently thriving as the first-choice striker at Chelsea. Also, Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu provide real depth as cover in the senior group, largely playing in the various cup competitions.

For Washington, his best step could be joining an English club lower down the football leader to help his development and give him first-team exposure.
