Rio Ferdinand has staunchly defended a Manchester United star after Ruben Amorim’s men were held to a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim took charge of the Red Devils for their first match since the end of the November international break.
The 39-year-old Portuguese manager replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout after the Dutchman was sacked by the Red Devils in late October.
Amorim, who was widely praised for his work at Portuguese outfit Sporting CP, arrived at the Premier League club at the start of the November international break.
United made a strong start on their visit to Portman Road on the weekend under Amorim after Marcus Rashford fired the Red Devils into an early lead.
However, Omari Hutchinson produced an all-important equaliser for Ipswich Town before half-time and United were unable to restore their lead in the second half.
Amorim’s men had to settle for a Premier League point in the former Sporting CP manager’s first match in charge of the Red Devils.

Ferdinand defends Man Utd star
Ruben Amorim didn’t hesitate to imprint his style of play on Manchester United and deployed a three-man backline in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Portman Road.
The United manager played Marcus Rashford down the middle and Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho played behind him in a 3-4-2-1 formation.
Alejandro Garnacho has performed well this season, with the United star netting seven times and picking up four assists in 19 matches across all competitions.
However, the 20-year-old Spain-born winger was unable to make an impact against Ipswich Town and Amorim withdrew Garnacho in the 86th minute.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, United fan presenter Stephen Howson pulled no punches towards Garnacho over his showing at Portman Road.
“Garnacho has the decision-making of a cat. It’s awful,” he said.
Rio Ferdinand wasted no time rushing to Garnacho’s defence and insisted that the Argentina international’s best position is out on the left.
“Don’t talk about Garnacho like that. You can’t be perfect, he’s a kid man,” he said in response to Stephen Howson.
“[Without Garnacho] no-one’s running back, no-one’s running in behind the opposition. I’d play Garnacho on the left.
“This is a process we can’t expect them to look like the Sporting team now. It’s impossible, you can’t expect that to be the case.”

Amorim’s reaction to Ipswich vs Man Utd
Speaking after Sunday’s 1-1 draw, Amorim insisted that United must “risk it a little bit” now and “suffer a little bit” ahead of seeing major change at the Red Devils.
“They are thinking about too much because things are so different,” he said.
“Some details, they used to pass the ball and go forward and now they have to go back.
“These types of things, they have to think too much. [Diogo] Dalot used to do it, he would pass the ball and then go inside and play in midfield. Now he has to stick in this position.
“It is hard for the players in three days to try to cope with everything, but we have two ways: we forget about the new idea – and I think that’s why I was brought here in the middle of the season – and we try to cope with what they are used to doing. And next year, at the same stage, we will be here with the same problems.
“Or we start now, we risk a little bit, we suffer a little bit and next year we will be better at this point. So, we have to risk it a little bit.”
