Leicester City hold talks with Ruud van Nistelrooy to replace Steve Cooper

Leicester City are making great progress in their bid to replace Steve Cooper as the manager. Some reports suggest Ruud van Nistelrooy has entered talks.

It is widely documented that Ruud van Nistelrooy is the odds-on favourite to replace Steve Cooper as the new Leicester City manager. Yesterday, the odds for the Dutchman were 4/7. At the time of writing this, they are sitting at around 1/4.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is currently without a job, after leaving his post at Man United. The Old Trafford legend did well when stepping up as caretaker manager but now he is looking for something more permanent.

According to a report from Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, Leicester City entered talks with Ruud van Nistelrooy yesterday. Now, Veysey claims that RvN is "closing in on" the Leicester job.

There is nothing in reported of terms. Perhaps this is because those terms have not been agreed to at this stage. As it stands, the source only claims that Ruud van Nistelrooy is ahead of the likes of Graham Potter and David Moyes, after what we can assume were positive discussions.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is just 48 years old. Therefore, he has the potential to forge a long-term plan at the King Power Stadium.

One thing which plays to Van Nistelrooy's advantage is his experience in the Premier League. He is one of the best goal-scorers the league has ever seen, so he knows what it takes to be a remembered player within the English top-flight.

Despite only managing Man United for a short period of time, the Old Trafford legend got the players on board with his short-term vision. This is more than can be said for Steve Cooper's time at Leicester.
