Carlo Ancelotti's fresh Everton comments may have a hidden meaning after development - opinion

Everton’s start to the season has left a lot to be desired with the Toffees not exactly showing much progression from last season.

Sean Dyche is under pressure at Everton with The Friedkin Group already eyeing a potential successor at Goodison Park.

Things are not going to get any easier for Everton over the coming weeks with the Toffees set to begin a daunting run of fixtures this weekend.

There was something which will have pleased fans recently with former manager Carlo Ancelotti sharing his love for Everton.

However, a new report may now suggest that those comments should be taken with a pinch of salt with what he’s now trying to do at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid eyeing Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite

According to TeamTalk, Real Madrid are one of the sides who are seriously considering a move for Jarrad Branthwaite.

It’s stated that Ancelotti personally wants the defender.

It has been a difficult season for the centre-back so far with Dyche admitting Branthwaite was not fit enough when he returned from his injury recently.

However, this is still a player with a huge amount of potential which is being recognised by some of Europe’s top clubs.

But Madrid are believed to be eyeing the 22-year-old defender as a potential target for the upcoming January window.

Despite the interest, Friedkin is keen to sign Branthwaite to a new Everton contract when his proposed takeover is approved.

Carlo Ancelotti admitted he still keeps tabs on Everton

During the recent press conference, Ancelotti admitted that he still very much keeps tabs on Everton and how they are getting on.

“Of course, I follow Everton. I follow the club, I follow the results. Call me tomorrow after the game and I will talk to you about this.”

Naturally, Everton fans have been left delighted by Ancelotti’s comments, but there is certainly a pinch of salt to be taken with these.

Given the Madrid manager has admitted he has been keeping up to date with Everton’s displays, he appears to be the one who is leading their interest in Branthwaite.

The Friedkin Group are desperate to keep Branthwaite and tie him down to a new deal.
