Arsenal scouts at work last night in Champions League–Alternative forward target

Arsenal’s scouts were hard at work last night watching Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui in action in the win over Young Boys.

That’s according to journalist Maurizio Russo, who says Arsenal’s scouts were at the game alongside staff from Paris Saint Germain.

Retegui has been in fine form for the Italian side this season, with 14 goals and three assists in 19 games in all competitions so far.

He added another two to his tally on Tuesday in the 6-1 win over Young Boys, his first goals int eh Champions League this season.

The 25-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed and a report on Tuesday stated that Arsenal were now keeping a close eye on his performances.

The growing belief is that they need to add a striker to their squad, with that the perceived weak spot in Mikel Arteta’s group at this moment in time.

Retegui could fit the bill and Russo reports Arsenal’s scouts were in attendance to watch the striker in the win over Young Boy.

They’re ‘on the trail’ of the Italian striker but could face competition from PSG, who want to rebuild their attack and now have their eyes on Serie A to do so.

With two goals, we’re sure those scouts will have been left impressed by what they saw, but whether that leads to an increased interest remains to be seen.
