Chelsea defender Levi Colwill is a player whom Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala knows very well.
Levi Colwill and Jamal Musiala both played for Southampton’s academy before moving to Chelsea.
They have gone their separate ways, with the former still at Chelsea but the latter now at Bayern.
However, Musiala has not forgotten about Colwill, recently speaking about his friendship with the centre-back. While he was being linked with a return to Chelsea, Musiala is set to sign a new deal at Bayern.

Jamal Musiala on his friendship with Levi Colwill
Colwill was one of the first friends Musiala made after moving to England from Germany.
The attacking midfielder has now shared a funny interaction between the two when they first met due to him not knowing much English.
Speaking about his career so far on The Players’ Tribune, Musiala said: “It’s funny actually because one of the first friends I made when I came to England was Levi Colwill. I showed up on the first day of training at Southampton’s academy, and I was speaking 99% German. But you know how football is… it’s the universal language.
“I walked up to Levi, because I guess he looked nice, and I tried the best I could… ‘Na, was geht? Jamal. Hello. Football. I love football. Cool. Football, bro. Jamal’. Levi probably thought I was so weird, but we bonded over the game, and I started slowly learning English.”

Colwill has been speaking about his own career, claiming that he does not think he has made it as a footballer yet despite playing for both Chelsea and England.
What has Jamal Musiala said about his time at Chelsea?
Musiala never got to play for the Chelsea first team, but he still has fond memories of being at Cobham.
As a young player, he got to meet Chelsea legends like John Terry and Frank Lampard, describing the experience as “incredible”.
“When we got to Chelsea, it was incredible just to be around all the legends — just to be within 100 meters of them, just to see them across the car park,” the 21-year-old said. “This was like 2012, so we were seeing Lampard, [Didier] Drogba, [Petr] Cech, Terry.”
From a Chelsea perspective, it is disappointing that Musiala is no longer at the club. At Bayern, he has developed into one of the best attackers in the world.
Musiala is already someone who can score goals, create them and dribble effectively. For example, back in the 2022/23 season, he scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances.
According to WhoScored, the Germany international also completed 2.3 dribbles per game that campaign, an average that was only bettered by Alphonso Davies (2.7) in Bayern’s squad. Chelsea fans will certainly view Musiala as one that got away.
