Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes his Premier League record is under threat.
Alan Shearer is Newcastle United’s all-time leading scorer with 206 goals, while he is also the leading scorer in Premier League history.
When you combine his goals at Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers and Southampton, the former number nine scored 260 times in the Premier League.
The honour of being the Premier League’s highest ever scorer has belonged to Shearer since December 1993, just 16 months after the division was launched. He has been out in front for the majority of the division’s existence, and is still 47 goals ahead of his nearest competitor.
However, the Newcastle United legend is wary that his record could fall.

During Amazon Prime’s coverage of Manchester City vs Feyenoord in the Champions League, Alan Shearer, who was on commentary duty, was asked by Jon Champion if he is worried about Harry Kane ever coming back to the Premier League and breaking his record.
“Even Mo Salah, if he stays,” he said.
“That’s a topic of conversation as well at this moment in time. If Haaland does another three or four years the way he’s going, then you never know.
“Ask me in three years, Jon.”
How far Alan Shearer is ahead in the Premier League goalscoring charts
If Harry Kane had not left the Premier League in 2023, he would be well on his way to overtaking Shearer.

In fact, Shearer celebrated Harry Kane’s transfer to Bayern Munich for that very reason.
The England captain is the Premier League’s second highest ever scorer with 213 goals.
Shearer also believes that Liverpool superstar Mo Salah is a contender to overtake him. The Egyptian forward is the highest scorer currently active in the Premier League today, sitting ninth in the all-time list with 167 goals. He is 93 behind Shearer.
The third player who Shearer thinks could threaten his record is Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. The 24-year-old currently has 75 Premier League goals to his name, but certainly has time on his side.
Alan Shearer 260 Premier League goals
Harry Kane 213 Premier League goals
Mo Salah 167 Premier League goals
Erling Haaland 75 Premier League goals
Out of the three players who could threaten Shearer’s record, Haaland is the best placed to replace him at the top, despite being the furthest away.
There are no guarantees that Kane will ever return to the Premier League, while Salah’s Liverpool future is in doubt with his contract at Anfield set to expire in the summer of 2025.
As for Haaland, he is much younger than Kane (31-years-old) and Salah (32-years-old).
Haaland has plenty of time to chase down Shearer’s record, but it will belong to our Geordie hero for a good while yet.
