Official: Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal wins the Golden Boy 2024 award

Individual awards are always a great accomplishment for any footballer, but for Barcelona stars it is almost an expectation of sorts. La Blaugrana have always boasted an assortment of elite players across the club’s history, but that tradition will not expire any time soon it seems. Even today, many of the next generation’s most promising talents belong to Barcelona.

At the very top of that list, and many others, is none other than Lamine Yamal, however. The 17-year-old La Masia prodigy continues to break records and establish new heights for all the aspiring players who will come after him, and he simply does not know when to stop reaching for even more achievements.

After officially winning the Kopa Trophy at their year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, the next big award that was being linked to Yamal was Tuttosport’s Golden Boy award, a prestigious accomplishment that was established back in 2003 and is annually handed out to the most outstanding young player of the given year.

Now, officially, Lamine Yamal has been confirmed as the winner of the 2024 Golden Boy award. Always the expected favorite, he has now lived up to those expectations and the Barcelona prodigy now becomes the latest player to be named the winner of this prestigious award.

Interestingly, the 17-year-old winger is the third Barcelona player to win the award in the last four editions of it. Previously, Gavi won the award back in 2022 and Pedri won it back in 2021. Coincidentally, all three players have also won the Kopa Trophy as well.

With Lionel Messi having won the award back in 2005, Yamal now becomes the fourth Barcelona player to win this award. That now means that the Catalan club is the undisputed leader when it comes to the number of Golden Boy winners that have come out of any particular club side.
