Speculation over Joshua Kimmich’s future is rampant and it is hardly surprising. In just over a month, at the time of writing and as it stands, the year of 2025 will start and Kimmich will be allowed to sign a pre-contract to leave Bayern Munich for not transfer fee in the summer. Such a scenario is be a dangerous one for Bayern, especially considering just how irreplaceable the former VFB Stuttgart player is. Asked about Kimmich’s future and importance to the squad after the 1-0 win over Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League, Vincent Kompany readily admits just how vital Germany’s captain really is to Bayern:
“Joshua played every single minute so far, so the answer is simple. He showed in every game that he’s important for us,” Kompany explains, via @iMiaSanMia. “Contract details are not my role. My role is to keep the players motivated, happy and willing to fight for this club. I’m getting that feeling everyday from Joshua. Everything else is between him and the club - and I respect that.”
As the clock ticks down to January 1st, board member for sport Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund will need to be sure about their plan to renew Kimmich’s contract.
