Photo: £10m Wolves player who missed Fulham clash now spotted back in training at Compton

Gary O’Neil will seemingly have one player available for selection again, after he missed the win over Fulham at the weekend.

Wolves played brilliantly at Craven Cottage, winning 4-1 after going 1-0 down in the first-half.

It was a Matheus Cunha-inspired performance down in London, with the Brazilian scoring two and making an assist for Joao Gomes.

Optimism is returning within the fanbase, and people are actually now really looking forward to this weekend’s game with Bournemouth.

It’ll be another good chance for Wolves to pick up points, especially with Bournemouth not having Antoine Semenyo due to suspension.

Against Fulham, there was no Sam Johnstone in the matchday squad, with it being reported that he was ill.

Jose Sa started in goal, and Dan Bentley was named on the bench.

Johnstone suffered an injury during the October international break, which allowed Sa to come back into the side. And the Portuguese stopper has really grabbed his opportunity with both hands.

Johnstone missed the games against City, Brighton and Crystal Palace, but returned to the squad against Southampton. Gary O’Neil stuck with Sa, with Johnstone on the bench.

Against Fulham he missed out through illness – but seemingly, Johnstone is fine now as today, Wolves uploaded a new training photo on social media.

A handful of players are posing after seemingly winning a small-sided game and Johnstone can be seen.

A nightmare start for Johnstone at Wolves

The goalkeeper situation at Wolves continues to fascinate.

Some actually speculated at the weekend that something has gone on behind the scenes, but for now, we just have to take what’s been reported at face value.

Certainly though, it’s been a bit of a nightmare start for Johnstone since his £10 million transfer from Crystal Palace.

He’s made five appearances but failed to keep a clean sheet and he did face criticism during those five games.

Sa has come back in and looked pretty solid, and Gary O’Neil has said Sa’s response to Johnstone’s arrival has been ‘excellent’.

Johnstone will be frustrated at how things have panned out. But he must now show the same fight that Sa did to get back between the sticks. Former goalkeeper Dave Watson recently said Johnstone would find it difficult to reclaim his starting berth at Wolves, but he must believe he can oust his teammate.

The jury is very much still out on Johnstone at the moment, but hopefully, he will still get opportunities to prove that this wasn’t a transfer error from Woves.
