To a certain degree, Arteta is holding Nwaneri back right now, trying to protect the youngster as best as he can, but he is clearly a talent who is ready to impact games at the highest level.

Arsenal ready to pen new long-term contract with Ethan Nwaneri

Nwaneri has long been considered as a star of the future by Arsenal, and they worked hard to tie him to his first deal last year.

The finer details of the deal still need to be sorted, but that isn’t seen as an issue from either side, and the contract will be signed in the coming weeks ahead of his birthday.

Nwaneri, as expected, made the breakthrough into the first-team this season and Arteta believes that he has a huge future.

Despite the fact that the Gunners are currently still looking for Edu’s replacement, the systems are in place for them to conclude a deal for Nwaneri, which will be welcome news in north London.

Riccardo Calafiori has explained the Ethan Nwaneri hype

Speaking in a recent interview, Riccardo Calafiori talked up Nwaneri’s potential.

Theo Walcott spotted Arsenal’s Nwaneri mistake, but the Italian defender seemed to think that the 17-year-old was on the right path.

Speaking after Nwaneri scored against Nottingham Forest, Calafiori said: “I’m really happy for him. He really deserved it.

“For me, he is a pure talent and for sure you will see more from him on the pitch.

“Yes [we are helping him settle], but they [young players] don’t even need it because they feel a part of us from the first day. I felt the same when I came here. This is our secret.”

Asked if he had seen a 17-year-old as good as Nwaneri, Calafiori replied: “No, I don’t think so. I’ve never seen it. He can be really good.”
