Teenager nurtured by Paul Mitchell at Monaco now on Newcastle United transfer wish list

· November 27 2024, 18:30

**Newcastle United have reportedly turned their attention towards a youngster to whom Paul Mitchell will need no introduction.**

Paul Mitchell's last assignment before joining Newcastle was as Monaco's sporting director where he added to his already sterling reputation.

Now it seems that Mitchell is looking to reconnect with one of his Monaco success stories, Eliesse Ben Seghir. The 19-year-old came through the academy at Monaco under Mitchell's watch now Newcastle are keen to bring him across the channel.

This is according to a report by [The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-transfer-search-under-30461932) who claim that Newcastle are keeping tabs on the talented teen.

Eliesse Ben Seghir is wanted by Newcastle

Newcastle are looking at left-winger Eliesse Ben Seghir

-------------------------------------------------------

Ben Seghir is a winger, but despite being right-footed, plays on the left flank much like Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes.

Therein lies our issue with this transfer. It doesn't hurt to have options, and at 19, Ben Seghir is likely being seen more as one for the future than the here and now, so we don't have a problem with the idea of signing another left-winger, but the priority is clearly the opposite flank.

We should be making sure we have that right-sided attacker in place before we think about other positions, especially ones for which we have plenty of options.

en Seghir could be a quick and easy deal to do

----------------------------------------------

That being said, with seven goal involvements in 16 outings for Monaco this season, if Ben Seghir is available and keen, then maybe it could be worth a look.

You'd like to imagine it would be an easy deal to get done with Mitchell's connections at Monaco, so it may not be such a big distraction from getting the right-wing problem sorted.

It's just frustrating seeing us being linked with players who don't play the positions we desperately need. We just need to relax. I just need to relax. Breathe. These are professionals who know what they're doing. Breathe.

That didn't work.
