Barcelona star Gerard Martín has agreed to the terms of a new contract with the club.
That’s according to **[Diario Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/gerard-martin-redime-espera-firma-112109695)**, who have on Wednesday provided an insight into the situation.
The name of defender Martín has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the course of recent days.
This comes after the 22-year-old was first on the receiving end of widespread criticism, for a hugely underwhelming display in Barcelona’s La Liga meeting with Celta Vigo.
Amid something of a hit-and-miss opening to the campaign, which saw many of a Blaugrana persuasion make clear their opinions that Martín is not up to the required standard, as much marked the final nail in the coffin for some.
Safe to say, then, that an immediate return to form on the part of the Spaniard proved an altogether timely one.
Afforded a 2nd successive start in the absence of Alejandro Balde against Brest on Tuesday, Martín shone bright, superb in his defending, and equally excellent on the ball.
And it is such exploits which have already convinced those in a position of power at the Camp Nou of the full-back’s long-term prospects with the club.
As per a report from Sport:
‘An agreement in principle has been reached to extend Martín’s current contract until 2028 with a salary improvement for the player and a buyout clause of 100 million euros.’
Once Barcelona have cleared up the necessary space on their wage bill, the extension will be made official.
