Arsenal picked up an important three points with a thoroughly impressive 5-1 victory against Sporting CP in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Gunners had picked up just seven points from four matches prior to their visit to Portugal, but goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Gabriel gave the visitors a commanding half-time lead.
Sporting scored shortly after the break, before Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard netted to extend Arsenal’s lead and secure all three points.
Mikel Arteta will have been thrilled with his side’s performance in Lisbon, especially against a side that defeated Manchester City 4-1 less than a month ago.
After their own small dip in form, things are once again looking up for the Gunners, who face London rivals West Ham United on Saturday.
In the meantime, though, it appears that Arsenal may be battling it out with another London rival off the pitch.
According to CaughtOffside, both Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak.
Isak is a target for both Chelsea and Arsenal
The Swede has been in superb form for the Magpies so far this term, netting three times in his last four Premier League games.
Since joining Newcastle from Spanish side Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022, the 25-year-old has scored 40 goals in 79 games across all competitions, as well as providing seven assists.
The report claims that Newcastle are set to demand a fee of £115 million for the Sweden international, while the Gunners and the Blues will attempt to agree a deal in the region of £80 million.
If a deal for Isak can’t be agreed, the report suggests that both Arsenal and Chelsea are considering a move for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as an alternative.
Isak is contracted to Newcastle until 2028, and it is claimed that he is unlikely to attempt to force a move away from the club.
