Everton could join the race to sign 'special' striker once rated at £100m - journalist

Everton could be in the market for a striker in January should Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Beto end up leaving Goodison Park.

EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey

The Toffees have relied heavily on Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the current campaign, but he’s yet to repay Sean Dyche for his faith recently, scoring just two goals.

Calvert-Lewin hasn’t scored in his last eight Premier League appearances, despite starting every single one of those games. His contract is also up in the summer.

Beto has looked bright in the limited minutes he’s played, and he even bagged a goal against Fulham late on to salvage a point, but Dyche just doesn’t fancy him.

In fact, the Everton striker looks like he could be on his way out in January, with Roma one of the clubs linked with a January move for Beto.

Interestingly, there could be a new striker option for Everton in January, according to Graeme Bailey.

Everton could target a January move for Evan Ferguson

Evan Ferguson has been put on the market for a loan move by current club Brighton and Hove Albion in the hope that he can get more minutes under his belt.

And speaking exclusively to Everton News, Graeme Bailey has stated that the Toffees have taken a liking to Evan Ferguson and might be in the conversation come January time.

“I think Everton would be interesting. They play a style of football that would suit him. I believe it’ll come down to who can offer him first-team football, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been doing okay.

“I believe that Everton have shown interest in the past, they like him, so I imagine they might be in the conversation. I certainly wouldn’t rule Everton out of the equation.”

What would Evan Ferguson bring to Everton?

Well, looking at his stats this season, he wouldn’t exactly be a guaranteed improvement on what we’ve seen from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as he’s only scored the one goal.

He also has a very similar style of play to Calvert-Lewin, with his tall frame used to hold up the ball and connect play in the final third.

Armando Broja, Beto and Youssef Chermiti are all similar build and styles, so perhaps adding another to the mix would be a bit of a waste of time.

However, if they can agree a loan-to-buy deal then it could be of interest, especially as Calvert-Lewin could be gone if no progress is made on a new contract.

Ferguson, who has been hailed as a ‘special’ player, was once rated at £100 million (TeamTalk), but now his value has dropped to £60 million.
