Aston Villa took on Juventus in the Champions League as they looked to get back to winning ways.

The Villans hosted the Old Lady on 27 November, with Unai Emery making three changes to his starting lineup from the Crystal Palace game, which ended 2-2 on 23 November in the Premier League.

After Morgan Rogers’ goal in stoppage time was ruled out, the Lions drew another game, with the match ending 0-0 and Emi Martinez being the man of the match.

Villa News have handed out the player ratings for the fixture, with stats provided by FotMob.

Emi Martinez – 9

The Argentina international had a few moments as a sweeper keeper and came out on top. Apart from that, he was assured with his handling and pulled off a magnificent save around the 63rd-minute mark.

Matty Cash – 6

The 27-year-old made his long-awaited Champions League debut and was good on the ball. He was a threat going forward but didn’t let go of his defensive duties, winning six of his duels.

Diego Carlos – 7

The Brazilian was rock solid at the back and tidy on the ball, and relieved pressure with some impressive long balls in the game, completing five of them.

Pau Torres – 6

The centre-back was his usual self for Villas against Thiago Motta’s team, showcasing his defensive nous on multiple occasions.

Lucas Digne – 7

The Frenchman was one of the best attacking outlets for Emery’s team, attempting a few crosses and linking up well with teammates in the final third.

Boubacar Kamara – 7

Made a solid comeback into the starting lineup, making sure the Lions’ backline wasn’t left uncovered, winning six of his duels and making five recoveries.

Youri Tielemans – 4

The Belgian picked up an early yellow card and continued making fouls in the game. A different referee could’ve sent the 27-year-old off. On the ball, the midfielder wasn’t the most assured and lacked quality in the final third to unlock Juventus’ backline with just 0.04 xA.

Morgan Rogers failed in Aston Villa attack v Juventus

John McGinn – 5

Covered a lot of ground and had the Serie A giants’ backline on their toes, but the Scotland international was unable to do much with the ball up front, which was a bit discouraging considering he was playing as the number 10. The captain had a big chance around the 70th-minute mark but was denied by the Juventus defence.

Leon Bailey – 5

The Jamaican pulled off some impressive tricks throughout the game, but wasn’t able to do much against Andrea Cambiaso. The one moment he did beat the Italian defender, the 27-year-old put a good ball in for McGinn, who failed to find the back of the net.

Morgan Rogers – 2

Poor on and off the ball. The England international had a combined xg and xA of 0.1, won zero tackles and lost the ball twice. After poor performances in the last few weeks, the 22-year-old was woeful again and could’ve been a hero had his goal not been ruled out.

Ollie Watkins – 3

The 28-year-old was invisible, failing to get one over the Italian outfit’s defence. During the 78 minutes he was on the pitch, the striker also struggled to link up with other Villa players, with a passing accuracy of 54 per cent and an xG of 0.26.
