Liverpool fans make feelings clear on Kylian Mbappe after Real Madrid star snubbed Anfield…

Liverpool fans were booing Kylian Mbappe's every touch during the Reds' Champions League meeting with Real Madrid.

The France superstar joined Madrid on a free transfer during the summer window but has not had things his own way since moving to the Bernabeu, struggling to replicate the electric form that earned him a reputation as one of the world's best players.

Mbappe, who has largely played as a striker for Madrid, lined up on the left wing at Anfield owing to an injury to Vinicius Jr, but didn't to make an impact up against Conor Bradley, who was starting in his first Champions League match.

It's not clear exactly why Mbappe was booed by the Liverpool fans at Anfield; it may purely have been because of his standing as one of the world's best players, or it might have something to do with reports that Mbappe agreed to join Liverpool a couple of years ago — only for the deal to fall through.

It was reported by L'Equipe earlier this year that Liverpool tried to sign Mbappe in 2022, tabling a bid of $220m, only for PSG to deem the offer inadequate.

It was claimed that Mbappe had actually verbally agreed to move to Merseyside, so it sounds like no blame should be laid at his feet for the transfer not materializing, yet that didn't stop the jeers on Wednesday night.

As for the match itself, Mbappe was gifted the chance to get on the scoresheet during the second half after Andy Robertson clumsily conceded a penalty for a foul on Lucas Vazquez.

However, the France captain was thwarted by Caoimhin Kelleher, who sprung to his left to preserve Liverpool's one-goal lead, which was gained when Alexis Mac Allister stroked home in the second half.

Mohamed Salah had the chance to double Liverpool's lead a few minutes after Mbappe's missed spot-kick but smashed a penalty wide after being fouled by Ferland Mendy. However, the Reds did double their lead a short time later as Cody Gakpo planted a header beyond Thibaut Courtois.
