'It was...': Unai Emery gives his verdict on VAR's decision to disallow Aston Villa's late…

Aston Villa were denied a late winner in the Champions League after VAR ruled out Morgan Rogers’ goal vs Juventus.

The tie ended 0-0 after a tight affair at Villa Park. Despite the Claret and Blue side’s form going into the game, they more than matched the Italian giants throughout.

However, the decision to disallow Rogers’ winner will no doubt be the talking point after Diego Carlos was deemed to have fouled the ‘keeper.

The result has left Villa ninth in the table but they could have risen to fifth with a victory.

Now, Unai Emery has given his verdict on the decision in what could be a crucial moment in Villa’s Champions League campaign.

Villa went into the tie without a win in six matches. Therefore, many fans of the Birmingham outfit felt that the side needed a bit of luck when they faced the Italian giants.

Instead, they have been on the back of one of the most controversial decisions of the season which has stopped their side from ending their awful form.

As a result, the Villa manager was far from happy when he was questioned on the decision after full-time.

He told TNT Sports: “I’m very happy because we have won a point and we played very competitive and very seriously. We were dominant in periods of the match to try and get three points.

“The last action, it is clear it is the interpretation of the referee. We know here in Europe, 80% it isn’t his fault; in Europe maybe it’s his fault.”

He then added: “Here in England, it is not usually his fault because it was very soft contact. In Europe, it could be his fault.”

For Villa, they cannot afford to dwell too much on the decision. The club need to end their winless run and fast.

While they were no doubt robbed of a victory on Wednesday night, dwelling on the decision will not bring them the extra points.

Next up, they face an in-form Chelsea side who are beatable if Villa produce the quality they are capable of.

In order to get the victory, the club must take the positives from the Juventus match and move on.
