Liverpool banished a few demons with a terrific 2-0 win over Real Madrid on Wednesday.
The Reds have had a torrid time against Los Blancos in the recent past, seemingly never being able to get the better of them.
The fact that that poor run stretched to two defeats in Champions League finals made it an even more bitter pill to swallow.
One man who has been present throughout all of Liverpool’s recent torment with Madrid has been Luka Modric.
Modric made some disappointing comments aimed at Mohamed Salah after Real beat Liverpool in the 2022 final.
So, with the Croatian finally getting a taste of his own medicine at Anfield, it was interesting to hear how he would react.

Luka Modric reacts to Liverpool defeat
Modric is undoubtedly a legend at Real Madrid. Having won a Ballon d’Or in 2018, he is also a highly-respected figure in the wider game.
Nevertheless, at 39-years-old, there’s no chance he should still be turning out on nights such as these for his team.

And after succumbing to a loss at Anfield, Modric told realmadrid.com what ‘the difference’ was between winning and losing on the night.
“We are not used to losing, but this is the Champions League and we know that these are difficult games,” said the midfielder.

“There are still three to go and we have to improve. I think we are going to do it. In the last two league games we were in good form.
“We did well in the first half and the penalty could have changed the game, but we didn’t take advantage of it,” Modric added. “Then the second goal came and the game was almost lost.
“We did well in defence, compact and with the lines very close together. We had quite a few counterattacks, but in the final third we lacked a bit more. That was the difference.”
Liverpool have the last laugh on Luka Modric
Modric was honoured on his last visit to Anfield, which should never really have happened.
The Madrid No.10 did receive a polite smattering of applause when he exited to field on Wednesday, too.
However, given the sheer snide at which he addressed Salah on his way to collect a runners-up medal in 2022, Modric does not deserve the respect he has been given from Liverpool supporters.
“Thanks, Salah, next time you try again,” teammate Rodrygo claimed the Croat said to him as the pair waited to lift the Champions League trophy.
With Modric perhaps likely to retire at the end of the current campaign, it seems probable that he won’t get the chance to ‘try again’ at Anfield.
