Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to accept an offer from Leicester City to become their new manager following the sacking of Steve Cooper.
It is thought Van Nistelrooy is currently in the Netherlands, but his appointment could be confirmed quickly with hopes of him being in the dugout for their game against Brentford on Saturday.
Van Nistelrooy has been exploring opportunities since being let go by Manchester United.
The 48-year-old has no shortage of links from around the continent, although a Premier League club would be difficult to turn down for any coach. Van Nistelrooy was also linked with former club Hamburg, who currently play in the second tier of German football.
Leicester City won’t want to take too long to find a new manager. Still, they’ve already been linked with former Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg boss Niko Kovac and the current West Brom boss Carlos Corberan as potential candidates.
A report from Sky Sports suggests they have decided Van Nistelrooy is their preferred choice for the job.
Van Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford in the summer as Erik ten Hag’s assistant coach.
He became interim manager when Ten Hag was sacked in October and twice beat Leicester City in his four-game stint to stay unbeaten before the club confirmed his departure.

If Van Nistelrooy accepts the offer at Leicester, he will be tasked with keeping the Foxes in the Premier League.
Leicester are currently positioned 16th with 10 points from 12 games, after losing against Chelsea last weekend. They will believe that making this decision now will give them the best chance of staying in the top flight.
Although Cooper deserved more time at the King Power Stadium, the club’s hierarchy must believe that they could be higher than they are in the league.
Performances have been a concern and poor results against Ipswich Town and Everton did not help.
Things need to improve if Leicester plan on staying in the Premier League.
