After five games played in the Champions League, Liverpool are top of the league phase – the only side in Europe who still have a perfect record.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool side have scored 12 goals and only conceded one, the kind of form that could deliver another famous European trophy at Anfield.
And in truth, Liverpool deserved their victory against Real Madrid on Wednesday evening, a game that was ultimately decided by Alexis Mac Allister’s brilliant finish.
Real weren’t quite at full strength, something Carlo Ancelotti alluded to in his post-match comments, but the opposition manager was still incredibly complimentary about Liverpool.
Carlo Ancelotti thinks Liverpool are the best team in Europe right now
Speaking at his press conference after the game, Ancelotti labelled Liverpool the ‘most difficult’ team to face in Europe, something backed up by their Premier League position, too.
Ancelotti said: “It was a difficult game, as we knew, it was the most difficult stadium in Europe.

“We competed well until the penalty, but then we dropped a little bit later on, we could have made more of the counterattacks.
“I liked the team, we competed well against the most difficult opponent in Europe and they deserved to win.
“It doesn’t change much, even if we had won, we wouldn’t have reached the top eight. We have to qualify and we are going to qualify.”
Jude Bellingham spots Real Madrid’s big mistake at Anfield
Speaking to TNT Sports himself, Jude Bellingham shared similar sentiments about how strong Liverpool are right now.
Bellingham waited for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s shirt after the game, who didn’t come off the bench for Slot.
Perhaps the Real Madrid star is still dreaming of Alexander-Arnold one day joining him in Spain, but for now he was simply complimenting Liverpool’s strength.
Bellingham said: “I think to be fair, from the first minute they took control of the game. We never really maximised the spells we had in possession.
“We turned it over so much that they kept control. They were more up for it than us which is very disappointing to say.
“It is a bad result against the best-performing team in Europe. We are disappointed at how we have performed and it is important that win the next three games and give ourselves a chance to go through.”
