Liverpool are rejoicing on Thursday morning after comfortably seeing off Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Reds are facing a pivotal week in their season with Madrid’s visit followed up by that of Manchester City on Sunday.
And they ticked the first-half of that double-header off with a perfect win at Anfield against the reigning European champions.
Key to the result was Alexis Mac Allister, who opened the scoring for Liverpool with a clever low effort past Thibaut Courtois.
Mac Allister has been linked with Real Madrid in the past and so it was fitting that the Argentine was the man to sneak the Reds into the lead.
Mac Allister’s life in the middle of the pitch was perhaps made easier by the absence of Aurelien Tchouameni to call upon, though. Tchouameni is a top operator and former Liverpool player Luis Garcia has now shared which of the two midfielders he’d pick in his team.

Luis Garcia dismisses Aurelien Tchouameni claim
Had Liverpool signed Tchouameni when they tried to in 2022, perhaps they never would have bought Mac Allister from Brighton a year later.
Even after losing out on the France international to Madrid, though, Liverpool have continued to be linked with Tchouameni.
MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
According to Garcia, though, there is no need for the 24-year-old in the Liverpool squad.
Taking to X after seeing Mac Allister put the Reds into the lead on Wednesday, the Spaniard claimed that the No.10 ‘brings more’ than his Madrid counterpart.

“Lately, I have heard that Tchouameni is better than Macallister,” writes Garcia.
“No disrespect to the French international that is a top top player but, IMO Maca brings more things to the team. Just saying !! LFC 1 v 0 R. Madrid.”
Alexis Mac Allister reacts to goal vs Real Madrid
If there’s one criticism of Mac Allister at Liverpool so far, it’s that he perhaps has not affected the score sheet enough.
Seven goals last season was not a bad tally especially as he spent most of the campaign as the deepest lying Liverpool midfielder. But two in 19 this time can be improved upon.
Still, Macca is the man for the big occasion and taking to Instagram after the game, the World Cup winner expressed his delight at scoring against a ‘historic rival’ in Real Madrid.
“A special goal, a historic rival, and a team that never stops dreaming. This is the Liverpool we build together. Always pushing for more!” wrote Mac Allister.
After a brief below-par spell following injury ahead of the October international break, Mac is back in top form now.
We wouldn’t swap him for anyone.
