Roy Keane mocked by Ricky Gervais after furious spat saw him offer fan out in car park

Roy Keane clashed with Ipswich fans after the Tractor Boys' draw with Manchester United

Ricky Gervais poked fun at Roy Keane after the ex-Manchester United captain furiously clashed with an Ipswich Town fan.

The comic mingled with United icons Roy Keane and Gary Neville as well as Ian Wright, Jill Scott, and Jamie Carragher during a special appearance on the Overlap podcast, which premiered on Thursday.

Before the show, Keane argued with a fan at Portman Road while working on Sky Sports, 13 years after his spell as manager of the Tractor Boys. The dispute ended with the fiery Irishman telling the supporter to meet him in the car park.

Gervais saw his opportunity to poke the bear further ahead of the release of this Thursday's Overlap episode by responding to a tweet from Carragher promoting the show.

Carragher wrote "Bloody loves football @rickygervais [laughing emoji]," to which Gervais replied: "I'm just glad Roy didn't want to chat to me in the car park."

Keane, who was sacked by the East Anglian side in 2011, was goaded by the fan following Ipswich's 1-1 draw with Manchester United. Setting his microphone aside, the former midfielder stepped away from the Sky Sports desk and squared up to the man. He was then heard saying: "I'll wait for you in the car park and we can discuss it."

Portman Road's security swiftly escorted the heckler away and Sky Sports has launched an inquiry into the altercation. Neil Finbow, the fan who claims to have confronted Keane, later bragged about the incident on social media.

He wrote: "New claim to fame - just been offered out into the carpark by Roy Keane after a few choice words. Even Jamie Redknapp had to come over to get him away - just ya average Sunday evening out.

"I was reminding him that he set us back five years and ruined our football club. I also mentioned how he wasn't fit to step foot anywhere near our ground.

"Oh, and I mentioned about him walking out on a World Cup and breaking [Alf-Inge] Haaland's leg and putting it in his autobiography. I hate the bloke, and that's been boiling up since he got sacked all those years ago."
