Ashley Young has opened up on his respect for his Everton club captain Seamus Coleman.
The Killybegs man became Everton club captain in August 2019 following former skipper Phil Jagielka’s departure from the club.
He is captain both for his club and the Republic of Ireland.
Teammate Ashley Young is a very experienced player and has spoken about the first time he met Coleman after his arrival to the club in 2023 and the energy he gave out.
“I lean into Skip [Coleman] and have done since I first arrived here, when he was the first player I met at Finch Farm. Speaking to him, you quickly get a feel for the Club. You can see his passion and that passion reverberates all around the Club from him and others who have cared so deeply for such a long time.”
Coleman has now made 424 appearances for the Toffees, displaying what a legend he is for the club.
He has been involved in 57 goals for Everton in his almost 16 years at the club.
Coleman is now 36 years old and playing less minutes, with his current contract at Everton running out in June of 2025. It will be a big question whether he will get offered or sign another contract.
Young has explained the effect of Coleman’s passion around the club.
“You get swept up in that, for sure. It rubs off on you. Whether you’re at Goodison or we’re away from home, you see the passion that there is from the fans. It’s massive, it really is.”
