Everton-linked manager suggests he may never manage again in bombshell post

Everton are now set to enter the busy festive period and their run of fixtures are incredibly difficult.

The Toffees return to Premier League action on Sunday as they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.

It will be Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge at the Theatre of Dreams, so the atmosphere is expected to crank up a notch.

Meanwhile, for Sean Dyche, he is a man under major pressure having picked up just 11 points in the opening 12 games – despite a pretty favourable run.

The Friedkin Group are eyeing up potential replacements for Dyche with former Porto manager Sergio Conceicao named as a potential candidate.

Now, it’s just emerged, that one of their other rumoured targets could be about to change careers in a bombshell post.

Everton-linked Gareth Southgate suggests he may never manage again

Everton reportedly wanted Gareth Southgate to replace Sean Dyche earlier in the season but the former England boss ruled out an immediate return as he wanted to take a break from football.

Southgate likely would’ve remained on the Friedkin Group’s shortlist but now that could be about to change.

In a LinkedIn post, he appeared to suggest that he may never manage again as he considered a career change.

“It’s why I’m not limiting my future options to remaining as a football coach,” Southgate wrote.

“As part of working out what comes next, I’ve really enjoyed picking the brains of some outstanding people. By offering them a blank canvas great conversations have developed and a flow of ideas I’d never contemplated. (Honestly, joining LinkedIn was not the sum total…!) It’s shown me the importance of a good network and the power of getting different perspectives.”

Southgate added: “I’m not the only 50something contemplating a change of direction. An article in The Times last week said that a third of the current 45 to 54-year-old working cohort expects to change careers before they retire. Finding purpose appears to be a major driver behind these numbers.”

So it seems he can be ruled out of the running to replace Dyche, at least for now.

Everton should make Graham Potter number one target

Whilst some Everton fans don’t want Graham Potter, it’s undeniable he’d be a great choice to oversee a long-term project.

Potter thrives at making long-term decisions for the benefit of the football club and his experience at developing young players would lend itself well to The Toffees.

Everton need a rebuild as they have an ageing squad, so the former Brighton and Chelsea boss would be the ideal man to lead that process.

Potter recently turned down the Leicester job, so it’s unlikely he’d make the switch to Merseyside at this stage of the season.

They may have to wait until the summer.
