A fringe striker has his eye on an exit in the January transfer window. Southampton could make around £8.5m for his sale.
The January transfer window is moving scarily closer. Where has the time gone? It only seems like yesterday when Southampton won the playoffs to return to the Premier League, now they must think of their first transfer window of the new year.
So, while the players will be allowed to enjoy the festivities, those working in Southampton recruitment will be hard at work, in preparation for one of the biggest months in the football calendar.
However, Southampton must accept the reality that it won't only be players coming in. Indeed, there may be a few leaving the club too.
According to a report from Manuel Gonzalez of Voetbalkrant, Southampton are tipped to sell Paul Onuachu in the January transfer window.
The Saints see it as an opportunity to make up some budget to bring in reinforcements, with other reports suggesting Onuachu is also keen to return to Belgium.
The Belgian source has claimed that Club Brugge are most interested in signing Paul Onuachu. They think a deal worth under £8.5m could get the papers completed.
Paul Onuachu made his first Premier League start at the weekend, against Liverpool. Therefore, this seems like a strange time for rumours involving his exit to emerge.
At the weekend, the Nigerian striker played brilliantly. Despite the unfortunate result, Onuachu rarely put a foot wrong. This might suggest that Russell Martin should give him more chances between now and January.
However, Onuachu plays in a difficult position. It is the one are of the pitch where Southampton are pretty stacked with great options. As it stands, Onuachu is the third choice centre forward, after all.
