Kylian Mbappe has enjoyed many a glorious night in his stellar football career. Wednesday night at Anfield was not one of them.

Liverpool were comfortable victors over Real Madrid in the Champions League, with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo handing the Reds a 2-0 win. Arne Slot's side have now won five from five in the new league phase.

Mbappe and Madrid by contrast now face a fight to qualify for the knockout phase, as they are languishing well down the standings after three losses and two wins from their five fixtures.

The Frenchman arrived on a free transfer in the summer to much fanfare, although as of yet he has not lived up to the hype. Mbappe saw a penalty saved with the score at 1-0 on Wednesday and has been subsequently savaged by sections of the Spanish media following a dismal overall display.

The forward has also been subject to scrutiny from his native France, with the notoriously harsh French newspaper L'Equipe rating his performance at just two out of 10.

Ferland Mendy, another France international, received the same grade while Jude Bellingham, Luka Modric and Brahim Diaz were considered just one mark better.

L'Equipe rated Caoimhin Kelleher and Conor Bradley as Liverpool's two standout performers with marks of seven out of 10. They gave Eduardo Camavinga the same score.

The French paper have only handed out perfect scores to 16 players since 1988, the most recent being Ademola Lookman in the Europa League final for Atalanta last season.
