Aston Villa unlikely to plot raid on Serie A giants for £42 million midfielder

Aston Villa will unlikely launch the offensive to re-sign Douglas Luiz from Serie A club Juventus in a transfer window next year.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Douglas Luiz will unlikely rejoin Aston Villa in a transfer window next year. The Villans have a well-stocked midfield unit, and Unai Emery does not want Monchi to reinforce the department in 2025. So, the struggling Juventus midfielder must look elsewhere if the Serie A giants look to part ways with him next year.

Douglas Luiz and his Juventus troubles

Douglas Luiz has struggled to stamp his authority since joining Juventus from Aston Villa in a deal worth £42 million in the summer transfer window. The South American midfielder was one of the best players in the Premier League when he joined the Serie A club a few months ago.

However, the 26-year-old has been slow off the blocks in Serie A, managing only 312 minutes of game time across nine appearances in all competitions. A closer look at the numbers reveals that Luiz has started only two of the 11 games he was available for before fitness issues took over in recent weeks.

The Brazilian midfielder’s struggles have led to suggestions that Juventus might part ways with him in one of the two transfer windows next year. Recent reports have linked the former Aston Villa midfielder with Everton amid the Serie A club’s interest in the Merseyside club’s striker Beto. However, a return to the West Midlands outfit has also been mooted.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Widespread reports have linked Aston Villa with several midfielders, including Oihan Sancet. However, the report has suggested that the West Midlands club will unlikely launch the offensive to re-sign Douglas Luiz from Juventus next year.

Graeme Bailey has suggested that Unai Emery does not want any more investments in the midfield unit, especially with Youri Tielemans being a revelation thus far this season. So, with Boubacar Kamara regaining fitness, Aston Villa should look to reinforce other departments.

As for Luiz, the Brazilian midfielder’s long-term future remains uncertain amid his struggles at Juventus. It will be interesting to see if the Serie A giants cash in on the 26-year-old and look to recoup most of the £42 million they paid to land him earlier this year.
