As part of the announcement, Ipswich Town revealed that the two players representing the club in its debut ePremier League season will be Mark ‘Mark11’ Zakhary and Dan ‘Stingrayjnr’ Ray. These players will compete alongside one another through the groups and knockout rounds with the aim of being crowned champion in March 2025.
The two players are no strangers to competitive FIFA / EA FC, with Stingrayjnr competing for Liverpool FC during the last season of the ePremier League and Mark11 being a two-time World Championship runner-up.
The club also announced that in celebration of its brand-new esports team, Ipswich Town is giving supporters the opportunity to win a PS5.
Ipswich Town joins a long list of English football clubs that have established an esports team through being represented in the ePremier League. However, football clubs outside England’s top division have also expanded into the sector over the years. This includes football clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday, which launched an esports team and gaming arena earlier this year.
Mark Ashton, Ipswich Town’s Chairman, spoke on the announcement: “We are delighted to be launching our very first Esports team and would like to welcome Mark11 and Stingray to the Ipswich Town family. We recognise the world of Esports as a rapidly growing industry and are really looking forward to being involved in what we hope is a very successful first ePremier League season for the Club.”
