Chelsea legend Frank Lampard sealed his return to football management this week by becoming Coventry City’s new manager.
Championship club Coventry confirmed on Thursday morning that Frank Lampard, 46, has become their new head coach on a two and a half year contract.
Lampard is in the history books as a Chelsea legend for his achievements as a player. The English great also had two spells in the manager’s dugout at Stamford Bridge, most recently in 2023 for a short interim basis.
The 46-year-old coach has had a mixed time so far in management, but he’s dropped down to the Championship to take charge at Coventry.

Frank Lampard should ask Chelsea for Harvey Vale
Lampard is expected to speak with Chelsea about recruiting players, whether that’s in January or next summer. Apparently, Chelsea youngsters Josh Acheampong, Tyrique George, and Marc Guiu are three individuals that he likes.
It’s too early for any concrete transfer rumours to emerge yet, but it sounds like the new Coventry boss will try to bring some Blues stars to the West Midlands.
Chelsea youngster Harvey Vale, 21, is somebody that Lampard should ask for when he holds conversations with his former club.

Vale is currently starring this season for Chelsea’s Under-21s side, but there may be a better way to help his development. The English talent starred last year during a season-long loan at League One club Bristol Rovers, so shipping him out to a Championship team would be the logical next step.
People around Chelsea’s academy think Vale has Premier League pedigree, but he’s not made a single senior appearance this season under Enzo Maresca.

Clubs should be queuing up for Harvey Vale
Vale was tipped to leave Chelsea on loan in the summer before staying put in west London. Hopefully, the club make him available again in the New Year and send him elsewhere temporarily to continue his development.
The left-footed youngster should be an extremely attractive option for a team in the Championship, including Coventry. A big reason is that he’s so versatile to play numerous different positions on the football pitch.
Vale can be a big attacking threat as a No.10 or a winger. Alternatively, he’s also played at full-back in his career.
Joey Barton called Vale a “phenomenal” player during time together at Bristol Rovers. It would be great to see him now link up with Chelsea great Lampard at Coventry for the next step of his development.
