Mike Hughes believes Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s lack of goals for Everton this season is an “obvious cause of concern” for Sean Dyche.
The Toffees are set to face Manchester United away from home in their next Premier League clash on 1 December and currently sit 15th in the table.
Writing for the BBC Sport website (27 November), BBC Radio Merseyside reporter Hughes shared his thoughts on the form of Everton’s talisman this season.
“There has been a real shortage of creativity and conviction about much of their play around the opposition penalty area. It has become a real problem in recent weeks; one that needs solving in double-quick time,” he wrote.
“The lack of goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin is an obvious cause of concern, but given his aerial prowess, the supply line for him needs to improve markedly.

“Sean Dyche has tried various potential solutions to try to bring more firepower to the team, but so far without success.”

The Toffees’ season so far has been filled with a fairly mixed bag of performances.
While there have been times when Dyche’s men have proven their worth and shown that they can compete against their Premier League rivals, there have also been times when they’ve left a lot to be desired.
Certain players such as Dwight McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye have been solid for most of the season but, they’ve been the only ones who have stood out.
Indeed, Ashley Young has also been a lot better than many expected him to be this season but it still doesn’t excuse the fact that the team are 15th in the table.

Sunday’s game against the Red Devils will be a real test of how well the Merseyside outfit can handle pressure and whether they can show they have what it takes to avoid being involved in yet another Premier League relegation battle.
If that ends up being the case, it feels highly unlikely that the Friedkin Group will choose to keep Dyche in his role after his contract expires at the end of the season.
