Jamie Carragher believes Mohamed Salah will end up signing a new contract at Liverpool, rubbishing the idea that offers from Saudi Arabia will be tempting to him. He also believes Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk will pen renewals too.

All three are out of contract in June and can speak to overseas clubs from January as they enter the final six months of their deals. Salah has been the latest to speak out about his contract situation, revealing his frustration that a formal offer has not yet been tabled.

The ECHO understands that Liverpool are in talks with his agent, Ramy Abbas, and that Salah is very keen to stay at Anfield. Carragher had taken issue with the timing of Salah’s comments on Sunday, criticism that Andy Robertson said had since been noted in the Liverpool dressing room.

Within his reaction, Carragher highlighted that he was “desperate” for Salah to ink a fresh deal. And following Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid on Wednesday, the former defender predicted that Salah - who missed a penalty in the game - will indeed stay on Merseyside.

Salah was the subject of a mega £150million offer from Al-Ittihad in September 2023, which Liverpool promptly rejected. Carragher dismissed the theory that the Pro League would appeal to 32-year-old Salah, even at this stage of his career.

Asked about his predictions on the future of all three soon-to-be out of contract players, he told American broadcasters CBS: “I think they’ll all stay. I think Van Dijk will stay, I’m not worried about that one.

“I actually think Mohamed Salah is speaking about this situation a lot because I’m not sure how many other options are out there in terms of the top European teams. He doesn’t want to go to Saudi!

“This is a guy who is driven, he wants the record, the most goals. And he wants that with Liverpool Football Club.”

Carragher went on to double down on his theory about Alexander-Arnold potentially facing more hostility than his two teammates should he indeed leave Liverpool. He believes fan pressure will inevitably see him stay.

Carragher added: “Trent Alexander-Arnold, I think the reaction to him will be different to Mo Salah when we talk about his [contract]. I think he’ll get a lot more criticism.

“Because when you’re a local player, a lot more is thought of you. And I think the feeling of the Liverpool supporters will worry him a little bit and I think he’ll end up signing.”
