Internationals | Raso and Hunt start for the Matildas

Hayley Raso and Clare Hunt completed the full match for Australia as they were beaten 3-1 by Brazil in an international friendly on Thursday morning.

Making her first appearance for the Matildas since the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Hayley was named in interim Head Coach Tom Sermanni’s starting XI for the clash at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium, while Clare started in their backline.

Amanda Gutierres netted two goals within the opening quarter of the game to hand the visitors a comfortable advantage in the highly-contested encounter between the two nations.

Caitlin Foord halved the deficit just two minutes before the break in front of a sold-out crowd, but a second half strike from Giovana Queiroz sealed the victory for Brazil despite them finishing with ten players after Vitoria de Jesus Calhau was sent off for a second bookable offence.

That was Hayley’s 83rd cap for the Matildas and 26th for Clare, while defender Charlotte Grant was an unused substitute.

The two sides face each other once again on Sunday (1 December) before the Matildas then welcome Chinese Taipei in an international friendly double-header next week.

Araya Dennis helped England Under-19s get off to a winning start in their UEFA Women’s EURO Under-19 qualifying campaign on Wednesday afternoon.
