Cody Gakpo looks to have delivered a subtle message to Real Madrid and Jude Bellingham by claiming "God favours the humble".

The Dutch striker scored Liverpool's second goal on Wednesday night as they saw off Los Blancos to remain perfect after five games in the Champions League. Real meanwhile are struggling after suffering a third loss of their European season.

Los Blancos came into the year as defending champions after extending their record haul of Champions League titles back in June. The Spanish giants have often been referred to as European aristocracy given the way they've dominated the continent's premier club competition.

They were well beaten at Anfield though as their superstar line-up, featuring the likes of Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe, were outclassed with Gakpo suggesting Liverpool's humility aided their victory.

He wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of him and Bellingham, said: "God opposes the proud, but shows favour to the humble."

Bellingham's career has, largely, gone from strength to strength and he has become one of Real's and England's most important individuals. Roy Keane though has been among those to suggest the former Birmingham City man can come across arrogant with his antics.

He said, after Bellingham scored a late equaliser for England at the Euros: "If you scored a big goal, to me that wouldn't even cross your mind. You'd be with your team-mates. Scoring goals is the best part of football but I just can't imagine that you'd have something in your head to say, 'Who else?' That's the bit where I'd be going, 'Hold on a second'. It's a bit cocky and arrogant."

The Real Madrid No.5 did concede after the game that Liverpool were deserving winners as they got the better of Real. The midfielder also confessed that the Reds were currently the best team in Europe, praising their desire.

He told TNT Sports : "I think to be fair from the first minute they just took control, we never maximised the spells we had in possession. We tried to force the counter too many times, turned the ball over so much that they just kept control. I just think they were more up for it than us, which is really disappointing to say.

"It's probably a bad result against the best performing team in Europe so its no disgrace to come here and lose, but we are disappointed in how we performed. We need to use it in the right way, we've got three games left and it's important we win those."
