John Wenham has speculated that Tottenham could sign their own Martin Ødegaard.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes there is value to be had by signing fringe players from Real Madrid.

It comes after TBR Football reported [21 November] that Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle United are among the clubs watching Brahim Diaz and Arda Güler’s situations at Real Madrid.

Madrid’s current stance is that neither player is available for transfer. However, there is a belief that could change, should potential loan options arise ahead of January.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has pointed out similarities between a potential move for Diaz or Güler and Arsenal signing Ødegaard.

“It seems like these players could be available on loan in January,” Wenham said.

“Look how well Arsenal did just a couple of years ago, signing Ødegaard in similar circumstances.

“I think there is good value to be had at Real Madrid because they’ve got so many good players. I know they’re struggling to get into the team, but most players would because the level is incredibly high.

“Perhaps this could be another Ødegaard situation.”

Tottenham to sign Brahim Diaz or Arda Güler on loan in January?

Often Spurs see their players head to Madrid, rather than the other way around, with one current player at the club dreaming of a move to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Diaz and Güler are both struggling for minutes in Madrid. However, that by no means suggests that these are players who aren’t worth signing.

It wasn’t that long ago that Ødegaard was struggling to get into the Real Madrid first team. Arsenal took a chance on him, signed him on loan, and ended up convincing him to stay permanently.

The midfielder has since become the club’s captain and one of their most important players. Therefore, if Spurs could repeat a similar trick, Ange Postecoglou is unlikely to have any complaints.

And considering the number of absentees Postecoglou has, with Mikey Moore still nowhere to be seen, the Australian is unlikely to turn his nose up at January reinforcements.
