While Chelsea have been free-scoring as an attacking unit under Enzo Maresca, there’s definitely still some question marks around them defensively.
Chelsea are heading in the right direction under Enzo Maresca’s management, but they’re still a little vulnerable at the back.
In 19 games across all competitions this season, the Blues have conceded 21 goals. It’s more concerning that they’ve only kept five clean sheets.
Stephen Warnock thinks Chelsea need two key signings before they can consider themselves in a Premier League title race. Apparently, they need to add a world-class goalkeeper and centre-half to the squad.

Jason Cundy tells Chelsea to build defence around Levi Colwill
TalkSPORT pundit and Chelsea fan Jason Cundy has shared that he’s a big admirer of Levi Colwill. In fact, he thinks that the 21-year-old Blues centre-back is the future of the team’s defence and possible captain material.
Cundy told talkSPORT: “Who is our number one centre-half would you say right now? I would say Colwill…
“He’s the one we’ve got to try and build around. He’s still very young. You talk about the armband. I think Colwill is as good as anyone.
“I think Colwill might well turn out, fingers crossed, to be that dominant number one centre-half.”

Colwill claims he’s playing his best football under Maresca, which most fans should agree with if they’ve watched him this season.
He’s a ball-playing left-footed central defender who suits the possession-based football and playing out from the back. In terms of his defensive attributes, he’s looking stronger by the week as well.

In fairness, Colwill is an ever-present this season in Chelsea’s Premier League XI in the heart of defence.
It’s easy to forget that the academy graduate is still only 21 and such a young player because he’s playing with real maturity in the last few months.
Darren Bent thinks Chelsea’s Colwill has developed into a top defender. Let’s remember that this is only his second season as part of the Blues first-team squad as well after spells out on loan earlier in his career.
The partnership of Colwill and Wesley Fofana has been the go-to combination for the Blues in the Premier League, and it’s showing signs that it could be really effective in the years to come.
