“Big opportunity” – Paul Merson drops his Chelsea vs Aston Villa score prediction

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has now dropped his score predictions for Chelsea vs Aston Villa this weekend in the Premier League.

Merson, who is actually a Chelsea fan as well as a pundit who works for Sky Sports and other publications, is often one of the pundits who is good at calling results. I know I always like to take note of his Premier League score predictions anyway.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea stepping up pursuit of Premier League striker – not Evan Ferguson!

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are storming on in the league right now and they are surprising everyone with their current league position, sitting in third spot. I don’t think that anyone expected Chelsea to be doing quite as well as they are doing at this point in the season. I don’t even think many would have had Chelsea down for top four challengers. But here they are, at this point in the season at least, challenging for the top four at the very least.

They also have a big opportunity this Sunday when they take on Villa, who are no slouches mind. With clubs around them stuttering a bit, Chelsea have a chance to increase the pressure on the top sides.

Maresca has worked wonders so far

Merson told Sportskeeda:

“Chelsea have a big opportunity this weekend. Manchester City don’t look very good and if they lose to Liverpool, a win will lift Chelsea to second in the table. If they manage to remain consistent from there then who knows, maybe they have an outside chance of catching Liverpool at the top!

“Chelsea have decent winnable fixtures coming up so they must look to make hay while the sun shines.

“I’m expecting Chelsea to get another win here. Villa have too much going on for them now in the Champions League as well.”

Merson’s prediction:

Chelsea 3 Aston Villa 1

I’m certainly taking that all day long!
