There is a sense of uncertainty when it comes to Newcastle United reigniting their interest in Marc Guehi.
He was the Magpies’ top target during the summer, as Paul Mitchell tried his best to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Sadly, a deal could not be agreed and the transfer window closed with Newcastle United failing to land the right-sided centre-back they craved.
That is still a position that needs addressing, and it has been claimed that Newcastle will go back in for Guehi when the January transfer window opens.
Guehi is still Newcastle’s top centre-back target, and the injury to Emil Krafth has put a renewed spotlight on Eddie Howe’s need for reinforcements in that position.
However, it looks like Crystal Palace’s asking price will determine whether or not a new bid is made for the 24-year-old.

With his contract due to expire in 2026, it feels inevitable that Guehi will be on his way out of Crystal Palace next year.
The Eagles need to cash in, as it does not look like he will be signing a new deal at Selhurst Park.
However, it could be that his future is not resolved until the summer.

The Telegraph have reported that Newcastle will likely only reignite their interest in Guehi in January if Crystal Palace lower their asking price to around £50million.
How much Crystal Palace wanted for Marc Guehi
An asking price of £50million would be significantly less than what Crystal Palace wanted for Guehi at the end of the summer transfer window.
The final price that Newcastle were quoted for Guehi was £75million, including add-ons.
That proved to be too much for the Magpies, who walked away.
Where that would rank amongst Newcastle’s most expensive signings
If Newcastle United were able to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace for £50million, it would make him one of the club’s most expensive additions ever.
He would rank third, underneath Sandro Tonali and Alexander Isak. The latter is Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever, costing £63million from Real Sociedad in August 2022.
A £50million deal would be Newcastle’s most expensive ever in January, eclipsing the £45million arrival of Anthony Gordon in 2023.
While £50million would be a lot less than what Newcastle were going to pay in the summer, it would still prove to be one of the most expensive signings ever in the club’s history.
