Everton insiders tell a different story about Frank Lampard’s perceived failure at Goodison Park as he is hired by Coventry City, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via their website on 28 November that the English tactician wanted to implement a progressive playing style at the Merseyside-based club, only for the “chaos” there “drowned out everything”.

Toffees players, meanwhile, admired his man-management skills and understanding of the game, although he was not reluctant to give someone the hairdryer treatment if needed.

“He had to deal with a bin fire at Everton. Hopefully, he gets the time he deserves [at Coventry]”, one source told the newspaper.

On paper, however, Lampard’s stint as Everton’s manager between January 2022 and January 2023 was a failure as he averaged only a point in his 44 games in charge of them.

The 46-year-old’s time at Goodison Park saw his reputation as a tactician take a hit, with his subsequent spell as Chelsea’s interim manager not doing him any favours either.

Having confirmed the England legend as their new manager on 28 November, Coventry have now given him a clean slate.

The Sky Blues are placed 17th in the Championship with four wins in 17 and it remains to be seen if Lampard can lead them up the table.

In the former Manchester City midfielder’s defence, he has a decent record in the English second-tier, having led Derby County to the playoff final in the 2018-19 season.

He also has strong contacts at Chelsea and City that would allow him to bring players from those teams on loan in the January transfer window.
