Everton have been handed a potential double fitness boost ahead of their trip to Manchester United after captain Seamus Coleman and Youssef Chermiti were both pictured training alongside their team-mates at Finch Farm this week. Coleman, who holds Everton’s Premier League appearance record (currently 365) having overhauled his former team-mate Tim Howard last season, has only made a single outing in the competition this term when he played in the 3-2 home loss to Bournemouth on August 31 when the Blues went into the 87th minute with a 2-0 lead but somehow transpired to get beat.
The 36-year-old has subsequently been on the bench three times against Ipswich Town, Fulham and Southampton but had to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland’s UEFA Nations League matches against Finland and England earlier this month with a hamstring problem. Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of last Saturday’s goalless draw at home to Brentford, manager Sean Dyche said: “Seamus is on the grass but he’s with the medical side, so he’s just taking the first steps back.”
However, the right-back has now been spotted, in images taken from a session at the club’s Halewood base on Tuesday, stepping things up as he participates in some drills with other first team players. Meanwhile, Chermiti, who despite bagging a late brace to earn Everton a 3-3 draw in their July friendly at Sligo Rovers, has not featured in a competitive match since a 15-minute cameo off the bench in the 2-1 loss at Arsenal on the final day of last season, is also progressing.

Following the stalemate against a Bees side who picked up their first away point of the campaign at Goodison Park, despite being reduced to 10 men for over half the game, Dyche said: “We’ll wait and see about the continued development of Youssef when he gets fit, but he’s a bit away yet.” The 20-year-old was also taking part in a group session while separate photographs showed him on the ball in a training game.
