Ruben Amorim will be targeting his first win at Old Trafford

Ruben Amorim knows the importance of creating a fortress at Old Trafford after improving the 'tense' atmosphere at Sporting Clube de Portugal.

The 39-year-old will make his debut at Old Trafford for Manchester United's Europa League tie with Bodo/Glimt (8pm). Amorim will be desperate to guide his team to European glory, having won just once in four games.

United, who sit 15th in the table, will be looking to make it back-to-back wins and six games unbeaten. A first win on home soil under Amorim will lift the spirits among supporters - who are desperate to see the Portuguese coach thrive at the club.

At Sporting, he did just that. Amorim, who guided them to five titles in four years in charge, put the joy back in watching Lions after years of struggles under previous management - praising the passion supporters began to show during his tenure.

"There is a huge difference in the coach I was and am today. I don't say for better or worse," he previously said. "I'm a different person because of the experiences. What I like to highlight is that on the first day, the atmosphere in the stadium was very different.

"That's the thing that marked me the most. When I arrived at Sporting, the way the players made their way to the pitch from the dressing room and I remember stepping onto the pitch and the tension was something that marked me because I had never experienced something like this.

"After some time, what has changed was the atmosphere in the stadium. It helps to make the game more intense, it's part of it and I think everyone in Portugal wants more passion and more people in the stadiums.

"The supporters are the heart of the clubs and stepping into [Jose] Alvalade today is completely different. It was something that marked me."
