Real Madrid have lined up a potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti. However, it is not Xabi Alonso - At least not at this stage.
Times are testing at Real Madrid right now. The champions of Europe are performing at the worst possible level in the Champions League, currently sitting 24th after five games.
While Real Madrid are always tipped to qualify for the knockouts, there is also every chance that they might not even make the Europa League at this stage. That is how dire the situation is.
Real Madrid didn't help themselves in midweek, as they lost to Liverpool at Anfield Stadium. It was a horrid away showing for Los Blancos, with summer signing Kylian Mbappe failing to impress yet again.
In case the situation worsens, Real Madrid have lined up an immediate Carlo Ancelotti replacement.
According to journalist Roberto Morales, who spoke to El Partizado on COPE, Real Madrid have already orchestrated a quick-fire plan to replace Carlo Ancelotti. They have told Santiago Solari to be ready, in case they feel the need to replace Carlo Ancelotti immediately.
While the big red button has not been pressed yet, Real Madrid are simply preparing themselves for a short-term solution. It is believed that Xabi Alonso is still Real Madrid's preferred option long-term, however, experienced Real coach Solari would be ready immediately to fill in, at least until the end of the season.
According to Forbes, Morales said: "They tell me from inside the club that, since a few weeks ago, they've told Solari to be prepared, which is a message which arrives to the coach and it annoys Ancelotti,"
This season, Carlo Ancelotti has led Real Madrid to just 12 victories in all competitions. While most teams would kill for form like this, Real Madrid should be winning close to every game in their path.
Of course, we would be remiss to not mention Real Madrid's injury crisis. However, given the finances which the club clearly holds, squad depth should not be as much of a limiting factor as it has been this campaign.
I do not believe now is the time to panic and part ways with Carlo Ancelotti. After all, he has overturned worse positions in his managerial career. However, Real Madrid is a club which is always cautious, so that decision is nearing ever so closer.
