Kylian Mbappe looked scared against Liverpool and is suffering being outside of the bubble he built for himself at Paris Saint Germain.
That’s according to Real Madrid icon Guti, [via Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/real-madrid/20241128/1002361451/opinion-guti-sobre-mbappe-altura.html), who, like many watching, was left unimpressed by the Real Madrid forward’s performances in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday.
Arne Slot’s side brought their miserable run of results against the Spanish giants to an end at Anfield this week, with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo.
It could have been a different story, though, with Mbappe seeing a penalty saved in the 61st minute after Andy Robertson had brought down Lucas Vazquez in the box.
The missed summed up a miserable evening for the Frenchman, who struggled to make any impact on proceedings and was kept quiet throughout by the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Conor Bradley.
Things are not going to plan for Mbappé since his arrival on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain in the summer, with Real Madrid yet to find a successful way of fitting him into their team.
A non-descript performance against Liverpool was further indication of that and Guti believes he saw a player who was scared on at Anfield.
“We would all like to know what is happening to Mbappé,” he told El Chiringuito.
“He seems lacking confidence, timid… Moments before taking the penalty he looked scared… In that sense he is surely not happy with his performance and wants something more.
“Mbappé has now come to another team where he will surely have to compete with great players to be the best, and all that costs. And the Real Madrid shirt costs… and that is normal. It is difficult to think that a player will adapt so quickly and so soon to a club like Real Madrid, where it is very difficult to play.
“Removing him would be the worst remedy, but we do have to protect him. And that’s why he is in the best club. Both Florentino Pérez, the entity and Ancelotti are going to protect him because we all believe in him. I believe in him. The easy thing is to criticize and say that this one is not worth it… but Mbappé is one of the best players in the world.”
